"Project VIper is a new initiative established in partnership with the British Triathlon Federation with the express aim of increasing the opportunities for visually impaired athletes to take part in triathlons. The main races targeted for the 2008 season are the National Disabled Triathlon Championships in Rotherham on June 1st and the London Triathlon on August 9th, which comprises a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle and a 10km run.
One of the biggest barriers to entry for triathlon is finding a suitable tandem bike (and of course someone to pilot it!) for the intensive training that is required as well as the race itself. We are fortunate that Standard Chartered Bank agreed to fund the purchase of the tandem bikes being used by the athletes in Project VIper. After the 2008 season these bikes will be donated to the British Triathlon Federation for the use of anyone wishing to get in to the sport that needs a tandem but does not have access to one.
JD Cycles has played an integral part in finding and supplying the tandems that will be used by the Project VIper athletes. Your hard work and experience ensured that current and future VIper members have access to reliable and high quality bikes, safe in the knowledge that you are always there to provide ongoing support should we need it. I would like to thank you personally, on behalf of Standard Chartered Bank and on behalf of the VIper team members and their supporters who will now get so much from participating on equal terms in this exciting sport.
