Out on the road for a day on our tandem
Picking a route from the map, not just at random
Over the hills and through valleys we go
Sometimes so fast, sometimes so slow
Pedalling together along the way
It’s such a lovely way to pass the day
Working together, a team of two
Hearing the sounds, seeing the view
Struggling up and then racing down
Smiling faces and hardly a frown
Legs that are tired then get a good rest
Sharing the load is always the best
Stopping a while for a drink and a snack
Forging ahead now no looking back
Through the quiet country lanes we pedal and ride
Birds full of song and fields to the side
Along we go, wheels and cogs going round
The final stretch now, we’re homeward bound
Back at home and feeling quite tired
It’s a great way to travel and should be admired
The joy of the day for all we have done
Refreshed now and planning the very next one
Mind all alert from the exercise taken
Which way to go when next we awaken
But now its to bed to rest and to dream
Countryside, villages, a babbling stream
Together we sleep now as together we rode
The two of us out on the open road
