Hi,
I am brand new to this forum so I will briefly introduce myself. I am French currently living in Germany. I spent 2.5 years on the Isle of man where I learned to speak English and had a wonderful time. I bought a tandem two years ago (Raleigh) and quickly loved using it to travel but also for shopping, trips at the week end… I have a Bob trailer. Unfortunately my tandem quickly showed its limits. Wheels and brakes could not support the long loaded rides above all during our two weeks trips in Austria. I now want to invest in a brand new tandem more adapted to what I do with it.
I realised that there are many English tandem manufacturers and thank god for this because in France or Germany it is not easy to find.
I saw the Dawes twin galaxy which seems to me a real good deal at the moment. But the Orbit Pegasus tour seems also to be very good. I also thought about Santana, but is it really worth the price it costs? They seem to me very expensive for what they are, do you agree? And would you advise Dawes or Orbit?
The Dawes is equipped with a quad rear disc but I cannot see the size of the disc anywhere, would you have this information? Also is Quad a good brand for brakes? Is it as good as Avid?
Finally, for a third brake, according to what I read, it seems that the arai drum brake is the best to slow down the tandem during long slopes. Unfortunately I also heard that it is the end of the Arai drum brakes. Is the best alternative a 203mm disc? Does it work as well?
Thanks
