Would a 17/15 size with a 13inch seat post be suitable for a 5’11 captain, my current bike (single seat) is a 22 inch frame with 5” seat post, overall height without saddle is 27inch from crank.

Many thanks

You would need approx. 4” of the seatpost in the frame, leaving 9” out, add to the 17” frame and it leaves you 1” short compared to your solo. You don’t mention what sort of tandem it is, but 22” sounds a good size for a solo bike for someone of your height, to drop down 5” in frame size sounds alot.  A 20” front would be a much better size.  I would expect a 17” reach to be too short as well.  What make/type of tandem is it?

Hi Ruth

It’s a Reflex tandem, i was going to buy one of your Dawes but you had sold out when i telephoned, I have done about 40 mile on it today with no problems at all, as my stoker is only 7 the size is just ok for now, though i am going to try a stem riser for the bars , i didn’t want to spend excessive amounts on a tandem if i didn’t think i was going to enjoy it, but everything went well and the other tandemists commented on it so cant be all bad.

also i need a set of full mudguards.

regards

Martin
