I’m planning a trip to York with some cycling pals.  We’ll probably stay at York Youth Hostel.  Does anyone know of any circular routes of 35 - 55ish miles duration which would be easy to connect with from York - less rather than more hills would be better, plus the usual refreshment outlets, of course!!  thanks

There are many routes that can be devised around York, nearly all reasonably flat.

I think the best thing to do is to buy the 1:50 000 OS sheet 105 and they nearly jump out at you.

It is a very pleasant area to cycle and there are many pubs/cafes that serve meals.

I forgot to say that York Youth Hostel is a pleasant place to stay but, unfortunately as with all Youth Hostels these days, precedence is given to school parties so it is nearly always full. Therefore book well ahead, depending of course on the size of your party.

They have a decent cycle store,a Park workstand and a large set of Park tools for any maintenance problems that may arise.

The meals are OK as well.

Hi MW

We do a ride from Ilkley which goes out to Easingwold, Ampleforth, Castle Howard and back which is about 125 miles.  The route is stunning, I could devise you a ride taking in the eastern part of this.  From here to York is about 70 miles, so that would leave 50 to 60ish.  And I can recommend some tea shops, the one in Easingwold is absolutley fantastic.  And Castle Howard makes a lovely stopping point too.

When are you planning to come up?

Regards
Ruth

that would be great Ruth, thanks for your trouble.  I’m thinking probably June next year so there’s plenty of time.  you know what it’s like when organising for a group trip - it takes ages to get agreement so I’m allowing loads of time to plan

On this occasion the stoker (Kate) stays at home, it’s solos only
