New to tandems we went for a Dawes Discovery in November, with the idea of upgrading to discs. To cut a long story short we now have a Dawes Double Edge with discs which is a much better bike altogether. After swapping bars and saddles we now have a bike which we can do much more on than we ever did on two solo bikes - even going up hill (little ones) much to the surprise of the back seat driver.
I still get a scream on the first roundabout we come to as my riding style is a bit quick, but we’re getting better. Getting the tandem is the best bike we’ve ever had - don’t know why it took so long before we tried it.
Two tandems in 3 months wow! Good choice though.
Stokes bought her Double Edge a couple of years ago
and the only thing she has done to it was to upgrade the brakes.
You can read about the upgrade to hydraulic rim brakes in other forum topics.
Yes truely an increadable tandem. Very stable at high speeds
In cornering only the stoker/rear admiral seems not to trust me or the tandem.
And the gearing for going uphill seems just so spot on. We try not to use the granny ring
if possible. And so light weight that you can bunny hop it with ease.
A very good choice of tandem, and so much fun, like you said why didn’t we think of it earlier.
