Shwinn sierra tandem in need of custom built wheels (40/48 spoke) can you recommend someone please? Ta

THE LONGER VERSION:
Hi there, I wonder if someone could help me please?  My fiance and I have a Scwinn sierra tandem and it’s great apart from the fact we’ve started losing rear spokes like they’re going out of fashion (to be fair we’ve been all over the place and round the Isle of Skye on it (which I recommend to anyone!) so it’s not done badly but....)

I’ve been told by someone who knows a lot more about bikes than me that what we really want is a 48 spoke wheel on the back and 40 on the front.  This does however mean fnding a specialist to supply and build them.  I have asked a few reputable bike shops in my area but tandem wheels it seems are a bit specialist and 48 hole rims/hubs not always that easy to come by.

If you have any recommendations I’d be very grateful!

Cheers,

Ian

I had a Synergy Tandem wheelset build by MSG bikes (http://www.msgbikes.com) for our Dawes Double Edge, so I could fit a rear disc.  They were superbly made and absolutely true and were delivered by mail order.

A well built 36 spoke rear wheel should be fine - and the advantage of it is that spare rims are easy to find.  we run mavic 721s on hope big un hubs.  the key is getting a good wheel build.  We do have a 48 spoke front - sun ryno lite rim on big un.
