My wife and I will be staying a couple of days at Kielder Water and are planning a 40 to 60 miile bike run on our Dawes Double Edge.  I’m thinking of taking the Forest Drive over towards the A68, but turning R onto another forest track down to Gibshiel, then on to Bellingham, back up to Falstone and return to Kielder.

Any comments or suggestions welcome.

grin Nice Tandem, sorry I can’t help. Never been there.
Just ride when and where you want to go, make it an adventure.
Have lots of FUN. Pedlar cheese

Hi

John and I have cycled in that area quite a bit, for off-road the Cross Border route would be great for tandeming, and the Reveirs return goes through Keilder and the North Pennine Cycleway though Bellingham, so that might give you a few ideas.

Regards
Ruth

We managed a couple of interesting routes and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.  The first one was a circular from Allendale over the Pennines and down to Allenheads for coffee and cake before returning to our start.  A fine sunny day with little wind.  This route is described on one of the tourist information sites.

The next day we left from the Kielder Water campsite and took the forest drive over to the longest place name in England, then down the A68, which wasn’t as bad as I had feared, then over to Bellingham for coffee and cake and back.

Both routes were hilly and the forest drive was quite rough in places which kept our speed down and found some tender bits.
