Been perusing this website and find it interesting to get the UK viewpoint on tandems.
We reside in Tucson, Arizona, USA.  We are longtime tandemistas; have been at it since 1975 and are ages 75/72 . . . may seem ancient to some of you! However, we still pedal TWOgether about 100 miles a week, year ‘round.
Did we say year ‘round? Living in the desert we get only 13 months of sunshine per year (or so it seems) and are glad for a rain shower or even a cloudy day!
Unlike the UK (been there a couple times . . .back in 1947 and 1985) where we need to bring an umbrella and a sweater (jumper?).
We are now on our 5th tandem. Started off with a French Follis 10 speed in 1975. After two years we knew what we wanted and since then have designed our own tandems to be built by a qualified custom builder.
Currently own a full carbon Zona tandem. It is a fully lugged frame (yes, carbon lugs with old time window cutouts) and we posted a photo acouple days ago.
Do we really ‘need’ that good/light of a machine? Not really, but what are we going to do, wait until we get older?
Pedal on TWOgether!
