Frequently Asked QuestionsDo I have to wear a helmet for my discover tandeming day? It’s is entirely up to the individual person, helmets are not law in the UK. Our advice is that you should and we have helmets available to borrow. Whatever you feel comfortable in, avoid jeans or anything tight with bulky seams. We do stock a great range of clothing, so you would be able to make a purchase if you wish before your ride. No we provide a rack pack with tools, a lock and a map; there is also space for you to put a phone, waterproof etc in the pack. Our tandems are fitted with flat pedals on the front and rear with strapless toe clips on the rear as well which are useful to stop your feet coming off the pedals. If you use Shimano SPD’s we have plenty available just bring your cycling shoes. If you use anything else it would be wise to bring them along. It shouldn’t be necessary our tandems are fitted with comfortable saddles, but if you have a specific preference feel free to bring your saddle along. Yes, if you are test riding with a view to buying, then allow enough time to ride all the models you are interested in. Absolutely, all the control and balance is the responsibility of the front rider. On most tandem yes, it is very unusual to need independent pedalling, but we do have tandems that allow that to happen. It doesn’t, that’s the beauty of tandem riding. For example if you have a rider who normally averages 20 mph and the other rider normally averages 10 mph, then the chances are as a combined team you’ll be riding at 15 mph. Do I need to book in if I want a test ride? Not always, but it is always wise to check our opening times before setting off. And to guarantee availability of particular models then booking is essential. Also please note there are times when we are closed or fully booked.
