Tandeming & Camping in Malhamdale

John and I are off tomorrow (October 18th – must be mad) camping in Malhamdale, with Charlie & Hassle and our Santana Beyond. Fingers crossed for good weather, it’s only 5.25pm and it’s nearly dark today!

Tandeming in Holland

John and I popped over to Holland last Tuesday, and I mean popped, the flight time from Leeds Bradford was 53 minutes, in fact I still had my G & T by the time we landed. Although that’s mainly due to the fact that to get an extra leg room seat for John (6’5” and shrinking) we had to sit in the middle so it took 25 minutes to be served. A day of business was followed by a day of tandem riding. Now the flat isn’t really for us, we prefer something more undualting. But I have to say I really enjoyed the riding, lots of cycle paths – no windmills though! Food was fab, and the ride up the coast through the sand dunes was great

Back on the front again

It’s been a while since I have done any front riding, but following a request from my long time friend Helen, we both got back in the saddle for a spin to Bolton Abbey. I had forgotten how much fun it is to ride with a friend, roll on next week.

Doing the Fred again

Chelsea my colleague, friend and gym training partner, has persuaded me to do the Fred Whitton again, this time solo. I have 8 and a bit months to get fit. This time I won’t have John along to tow me up the climbs like in 2005. I shall set myself a target to beat the time we did on the tandem of 11 hours and 57mins.

Coals to Newcastle

Taking our Santana Beyond tandem to the States seemed a little like taking coals to Newcastle. Especially as our visit included a trip to the Santana factory in California. We had some fantastic rides whilst we were out there, the altitude adding a new dimension to tandem riding. At Breckenridge we were at 9,500ft above sea level. My favourite ride was up an old railway track to a Pass called the Boreas at about 11,500ft. This was an incredible climb, the descent was better suited though to an off road tandem as the track was actually rougher than it had seemed when we were climbing, the scenery in the Rocky Mountains was stunning. Especially the thunderstorms which we had to duck and dive a few times. Lets hope we can keep it up, the jet lag has proved too much for us to get back out on the tandem yet though.
