“The Tandem event for everyone with or without a Tandem”

The FREE annual 3 day event (sponsored by Landescape & Santana Tandems) to encourage Tandeming for everyone, held alongside the only UK Tandem Triathlon in Bishops Castle, Shropshire – now in it’s 21st Year and organised by the South Shropshire Sports & Leisure and the local community. The event is expecting to attract over 300 people over the weekend – a great gathering, don’t not miss it!

Weekend Program

Thursday PM – Campsite opens

Friday – Rides, Skill Challenge, Treasure Hunts, Tandem Clinic & Tandem Experiences

Friday Evening – Quiz Night

Saturday – Tandem Triathlon as well as Friday’s activities

Saturday PM – Presentation of awards of the Tandem Triathlon

Saturday Evening – Ceilidh with ‘This Way Up’ – Food will be available

Sunday PM – Fancy Dress Competition and participation in the Bishops Castle Carnival
& Tandemania

Registration is FREE
Please register on line to allow us to have a good idea on numbers to cater for. The event is FREE unless you are entering the Bishop Castles Tandem Triathlon.

Accommodation

Camping & Caravanning
The site is located next to the Leisure Centre in the village of Bishops Castle. Access is via the entrance off the A488 (heading south) on the right just after the cross roads with the B4385.

Costs are £3 per person per night, under 10’s go FREE

Tom Martin will be on site daily collecting payments for Camping. Toilets and showers are supplied and are in the Leisure Centre. Toilet cubicles are also supplied for overnight use.

Bed & Breakfast
There is plenty of accommodation available and all can be viewed on www.bishopscastle.co.uk, however book early to avoid disappointment.

Headquarters
Based on the school field next to the Leisure Centre & Community College and will be manned on a Rota basis each day.

Tandem Triathlon – 1st July 2006 – Entry Fee Applies

The only Tandem Triathlon in the UK where each Team is given a swim start time when the running clock is started. One person completes the 1-kilometre swim at Bishops Castle Leisure Centre, before dashing out to their partner waiting with the Tandem. Both partners Tandem a 35-kilometre ride up Colstey Bank to Clun, through Clunton, then back to Bishop’s Castle via Lydbury North. Then up the fearsome Colstey Bank for a second time where the other partner completes a 10-kilometre cross-country run through Colstey Wood. When the runner finishes, the pair then Tandem back down Colstey Bank to the Community College, Bishop’s Castle where they are given a finish time. Once one is taken from the other an overall time is achieved. Competitors are also given their split times for the swim and run section.

Entertainment
Friday – Quiz Night at the famous Three Tuns Pub / Brewery at the top of the High street – Free Entry – First Come First Served – Limited Spaces
Saturday – Ceilidh featuring – This Way Up – original entertainment for Tandemania – Free Entry – ONLY by Tandeming 2006 wristband available from Headquarters

Fancy Dress and the Carnival
This years Carnival theme is ‘FILMS’ All participants are invited to join in the Carnival
procession and we really encourage all to take part – prizes for the best and worse!

And finally TANDEMANIA – full afternoon of fun entertainment planned for all on the
Campsite with Grass Track racing, Egg & Spoon Race, Limbo and the famous Trailer
reversing contest plus much more – Rosettes to all winners
