Exciting Times at JD Tandems - Made in Spain

Here at JD Tandems we have been working on some new projects and collaborations.

For our next new tandem project we are working with Campmajo who are a Spanish company. Every frame Campmajo make is a custom build. If you look on their website you can see from their gallery just how diverse a range of tandem frames they can build.

A big gap in the UK tandem market is for a low step through frame front and rear which is available in smaller sizes. We sell the Staerk which is a fabulous tandem, and this is built in the Netherlands, but the Dutch are a nation of tall people, and the frame size is too large for some of our customers.

The test ride model we have on order from Campmajo should suit a large range of riders, and we have chosen a frame design which has lowered cross bars front and rear but still looks sexy and modern.

Campmajo build electric and non electric bikes, we have gone electric assist. And like our new British built tandem this will be equipped with the latest Bosch Performance Line CX motor and has the motor fitted at the stokers bottom bracket keeping the front and rear riders pedals in sync.

This tandem comes with an 800wh battery, which is internally fitted, and there is also an option to have a dual internal battery frame so running 2 batteries will be possible.

This is another premium product and prices for the complete tandem will be from around £8,000 to £10,000 depending on the specification.

We are not bringing in complete tandems from Campmajo but just the frame, forks and the Bosch motors, because the frames are made in Spain these will come in free of import duty. Whereas importing complete tandems incurs as much import duty as 14% for a non electric assist machine.

As experienced tandem builders we have all the necessary components and skills to build the Campmajo frameset into something rather special, and this will also allow a reasonable amount of customisation of the components we fit, as well as a complete custom frame.
