The Lightning Bosch Performance Line CX Smart, is the newest addition to the Orbit electric assist range.This second hand tandem is in immaculate condition. Suits a front rider from about 5'11" to 6'3" and a rear rider from about 5'5" to 5'10" depending on leg length.
Built using a lightweight aluminium frame, the tandem uses the Bosch Perfomance Line CX 250W motor and comes with a 545wh battery.
Battery weighs 3.5kg, and takes 4 hours for a full charge, however, it is 80% charged after the initial 2 1/2 hours.
Range of course depends upon rider weight, wind, tyre selection & altitude gain, but it can be as much as 70 miles per charge.
The 250W motor is the highest output system that is road legal in the UK, giving up to 85Nm of torque.
This type of electric assist is called a mid-drive system, the engine runs through the gears, and correct use of the gears when climbing make the system really efficient, and allows a light weight motor to be used whilst still giving out a great amount of torque, which is needed for pedalling up the hills.
